CONTEST Update: Additional Concept or Your Concept

Sat Mar 14, 2009, 12:20 AM
Before I write anything else, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has graciously taken the time to participate and/or express interest in the contest so far. It's been very inspiring to see all the variations that people are coming up with and I thank you!

Now I have received a few letters from folks who were frustrated by the business names chosen for the logo concept. The points made had mostly to do with marketing and advertising concerns. For example, that "Julia Bean" is unprofessional or that "PixelBox" sounds like party store. Neither of these things really concern me, because again, I'm not in this for the money and never intend to earn my living from it. Instead, the future site is just to have a web presence for people who might want me to do some work. But I want it to look nice and that's why I came to you for help.

That said, if someone wants to come up with a completely different name and logo for the business, I've got no problem with that. The only requirements I have for pursuing that route are:

1. The domain name for your proposed name must be available as a .COM domain.
2. Anyone else would be allowed to design around your proposed name.

The one other name I considered using is:

Bending Light Design (BendingLightDesign.com)

The ideas came based on the origin of the word "photography" which is literally from the Greek: photos for "light" and graphein for "writing". Or "light writing" or "writing with light". Most domain names using terms like "light" and "writing" have been taken and what's really annoying about it is that "bendinglightphotography.com" and "lightwritingphotography.com" are both taken and have REALLY poor websites on them! =)

I now realize that if I keep updating the original Journal entry, it will soon become way too long (which it already is). So when I do updates on the contest, I will do them to new Journal entries. If you want to be sure to receive alerts when updated, just be sure to add me to your DeviantWatch with the Journal box checked. The next update should be sometime on Sunday where I will post all the entries to date in one location (similar to what =1ar has been so kind to do for me thus far).

Thanks again and keep the entries coming!

Well for my 2 cents I like the name 'Julia Bean' because it sounds fun and down to earth. I am more likely to higher someone with this name then some stuffy name that makes me feel like the photographer thinks they are better then everyone else.
I also like the name ';PixelBox' if you are going to show yourself on a webpage only (with no store). Because the photos are pixels and it shows a little humor.

They are two very good choices in names.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

i was thinking the exact same thing as LilFairie though Julia Bean reminds me a bit of Gloria Jeans for some reason

When you "play" there is a big chance to loose
When you dont "play" there is no chance to win

yes, people have been bringing up all sorts of problems with the Julia Bean concept and I think I'm beginning to listen. =(

Thanks, Paflea. At this point I think it probably makes the most sense to work on "PixelBox Images" since that's what most of the entries are and I already have the domain name reserved. Thank you for your consideration.

Cheers!
